When we repair a decayed or damaged tooth at Wilson Dental Group, the way it’s fixed often depends on the location of the problem.
If there is a chip, crack, or tooth decay on the biting surface of a tooth, an onlay or inlay is often the best approach.
Inlays and onlays are are usually bigger than a conventional filling, but smaller than a crown. An inlay is used to fill an area inside the cusp tips or bumps of a tooth. An onlay covers an area that includes more than one cusp.
Once they’re in place, inlays and onlays are indistinguishable from natural teeth. Inlays and onlays:
- Are stain resistant
- Do not bring about tooth sensitivity
- Are beautifully matched to natural teeth
- Strengthen the tooth and safeguard against further decay or deterioration
