Good Reasons To See Wilson Dental Group

top dentist Wilson

When we are young, we feel powerful. We think we will live forever, and we know more than our parents. As we age, we discover that none of that is true, and we begin to appreciate the wisdom of those who have gone before us. That includes everything our parents said about dental care, and is a good reason to see us at Wilson Dental Group for a checkup and cleaning every six months.

Visit Wilson Dental Group For the Truth.
Visiting the dentist regularly is one of the wisest moves a parent can make for their child. A child’s oral health is a journey of guiding and correcting. Healthy habits are formed over time. Perhaps last year it was about not chewing ice; this year it’s about brushing at the base of the molars. Next year it will be about flossing daily. Best to get the bad habits fixed right away.

The same holds true for adults. Regular visits can correct a course that may eventually lead to pain, gum disease, damaged teeth, or complete tooth loss. Potential problems are best discovered sooner than later.

Teeth Cleanings in Wilson

Many of our patients at Wilson Dental Group don’t particularly care for having their teeth cleaned. It isn’t much fun having your teeth and gums poked, prodded, and scraped. But the cleanings are painless, and the benefits far outweigh any drawbacks.

Teeth cleanings begin with a careful examination of your teeth and gums. We look for any obvious decay or early signs of gum disease. (This is the part where a hygienist slides a small mirror between the gums and cheeks.) If there are any problems, we let the dentist know.

Next, the actual cleaning begins. Plaque is that gunky stuff that accumulates on the teeth. If it isn’t removed, it hardens into tartar, and can lead to tooth decay. We almost always find tartar, because there are always those hard-to-reach places that even the best home dental health routine can’t get.

Once all the tartar is scraped off, we use a special paste to brush your teeth. You’ve probably experienced it in the past: that extra-gritty toothpaste that, along with a high-power electric brush, gets any remaining tartar off of the teeth. Sometimes patients say they’d like to have a toothpaste like that at home. But it’s pretty harsh stuff. A couple of times a year is okay, but if you used it every day it would wear down the enamel.

We conclude our teeth cleanings by flossing your teeth, followed by a rinse. This might not seem necessary, especially since a lot of patients brush and floss before their appointment. But this flossing and rinsing ensures we get the last bits of debris from the cleaning.

Wilson Dental Group urges you to maintain a good home dental health routine, and to see us twice a year for a cleaning and checkup. We’ll answer any questions you might have, and address any issues. We offer general and cosmetic dentistry. Make an appointment with us today.
